Mandatory Requirement for Safety Training for Registered Fishing Vessel Crews

There is now a mandatory requirement for all registered fishing vessel staff to have had safety training.

One day course including theory and practical training concerning what happens when you enter the water and how to give yourself the best chance of survival

One day course covering the essentials of First Aid. Candidates find the course useful and interesting for work and other situations where practical First Aid could be the difference between life and death

One day course covering the theory behind fire prevention and control along with a practical session using a range of fire extinguishers

One day general Safety Awareness course including Risk Assessment. This course is usually taken a short while after the 3 courses above and helps to summarise these and help those involved in the catching sector to be able to carry out effective Risk Assessment

One day general Safety Awareness Course for New entrants to the industry

Venues

Courses are held at a variety of locations around the Eastern Region to coincide with the demand wherever possible. These have included Kings Lynn, Lowestoft, Boston, Brightlingsea, Leigh on Sea, Norwich, Caister on Sea, Happisburgh, Orford and Felixstowe.

NEW ENTRANT FUNDING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, ALL CANDIDATES NOW HAVE TO PAY THE FULL FEES AS DETAILED BELOW

The funding that was previously available to "Age Exempt" Fishing employees is now no longer available.

Elementary First Aid £80 per Person

Fire Fighting and Prevention £100 per Person

Basic Health and Safety (New Entrants) £80 per Person

OTHER COURSES

Short Range Certificate (SRC)

Next courses: Felixstowe, 28 July 2010; Corton, 30 July 2010

This replaces the VHF Course previously required and can also be used to update anyone holding a VHF Licence to include the DSC requirement.

Courses are held at various locations around the region depending on demand.

PRICE: Currently the fee is £100 (including the RYA Fee), There is funding available for those people who wish to apply for the New Under 16.5m Skippers ticket. To check eligibility Click here
